The Walking Dead Season 5: Rewatch Season 4 Finale For Hints on Terminus, What's Next

Terminus. Those who arrive get shot at, have their stuff stolen, and end up locked in a train car on The Walking Dead Season 4 finale. So far they do “survive” — we can’t sue the signs for false advertising — but the place does not deserve a high Yelp rating.
Tour guide Alex told Rick Grimes’ (Andrew Lincoln) group Terminus had been there since almost the beginning of the apocalypse. Once places got overrun, a lot of people just followed the tracks to this place, almost by instinct. Michonne (Danai Gurira) asked why they let people in. Alex answered, “When people become a part of us we get stronger.” Because you eat them?!
There’s an abundance of weirdness about Terminus, including a memorial room with candles on the ground and words on the wall reading, “Never Again/Never Trust/We First, Always.” It looked like a shrine. At that point, Michonne and Rick noted that the people at Terminus weren’t trying to kill them. Their shots were all aimed at their feet.
TheWalkingDead.com talked to comic book writer/producer Robert Kirkman after Episode 16, and they asked about the memorial room. “There’s a big story to Terminus,” RK said. “There’s a very long and involved way that Terminus came about, and that memorial is a big part of it. It’s what these people have lived through and what’s happened to them and what’s built them into what they are, which will be revealed in Season 5. There are a lot of hints when you watch this episode closely of what’s to come in Season 5, so I would definitely urge everyone to watch this episode multiple times and try to pick out the things we’re teasing because there’s a lot to find.”
Yes! More reasons to never leave the couch! RK said comic book fans will “definitely have a better sense of where we’re going” but you never know how they’re going to adapt a story and they could be doing it in a completely different way.
So far there have been many hints to The Hunters story from the comics — with the aim-to-maim shots, bones and body parts on the ground, people screaming for help, Rick’s final line, and possibly Mary’s BBQ hinting to cannibals. But The Hunters only had six members in the books and they weren’t this organized. They turned to hunting humans out of desperation because normal food was scarce and they weren’t actually that good at hunting animals. It was easier to trap people.
But there was also apparently a Roman god called Terminus who protected boundary markers. There’s a worship ritual where the bones, ashes, and blood of a sacrificial victim are used along with crops, honeycombs and wine and put in a hole — it's weird. Read the Wikipedia page and see if you think TWD is tapping into this sacrifice idea, in addition to The Hunters angle.
